👋🏽 Hi, i'm Blake

I'm a Software Engineer at Fastly, where I'm building infrastructure that makes the internet faster, more secure, and more reliable.

I began my career at Apple, where I served in dual roles as an iOS Engineer and a Campus Leader. Selected as one of only sixty students nationwide for the Campus Leader position, I actively collaborated with faculty and student groups at my university - hosting workshops, demonstrations, and training sessions that improved the integration of technology in education. As an iOS Engineer, I contributed to the development of internal applications that enabled employees to manage tasks and activities while providing key performance metrics (KPIs).

During the summer of 2024, I completed an internship at Fastly. I had the opportunity to develop a Kubernetes operator to manage ingress ACLs, diving deep into the world of cloud-native technologies. From designing the operator’s architecture to implementing intricate features, I tackled challenges that pushed me to think critically and problem-solve on the fly. Along the way, I honed my skills in Docker, Kubernetes, and Go, while also getting hands-on experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and observability. At the end of my internship, I was invited to join Fastly as a full-time Software Engineer after my graduation from Sonoma State University in December 2024.

I taught Blake in my Blockchain Engineering course at SSU in Spring of 2024 (CS 385: Special Topics in Computer Science). Due to the nature of blockchain technologies and how they sit within our broader cultural context, the course structure bucked traditional classroom norms. Students were encouraged to think game theoretically -- by either competing or cooperating with their fellow students, and at times with me, the professor -- because that's how users will approach their code in the wild. Blake thrived in this environment. He routinely thought outside the box (a cliché term, sure, but extremely apt), and he often found himself leading other students to do so as well. In perhaps one of the best moments in the course, Blake engineered his final project, both technically and socially, in such a way that would pull on as many game-theoretical levers as possible to get his fellow students to cooperate with each other. Blake's funny, fun to be around, and genuinely made the course interesting for me to teach. His questions and feedback were not only useful for me as a professor, but also intellectually challenging. Blake has an extremely firm grasp of computer science and programming, including (but not limited to!) Blockchain technology. Were I back in a hiring role in-industry, I would hire Blake in a heartbeat. I wish Blake the best in whatever his future holds. It was my pleasure to have him as a student.
